where to buy hubcaps, 1986 240 wagon 200

Greetings all,

I lost a hubcap from my 1986 240 wagon, pictured.

I can't find the same style, with the center part that locks in.

Where can I buy these? Used would be o.k.

If you get replacements, do this to protect your investment:

Make sure you know how to attach the finicky locking center piece. Front and back ones go on differently. After reinstalling, tug along outer edge of cover to be sure you have it on right.

And most importantly, don't let ANYONE other than yourself or someone who specializes in old rear-drive Volvos put them back on your car. You can bet that service shop employees will not be familiar with these. A percentage of these good folks will be in a hurry, will push the center cap into place and figure it's done. That's how I lost one of mine of that type. It's just not that easy to get them on.

The slightly later and more common style is one piece. Those aren't perfect either - the plastic tabs that hold the spring-wire tend to get stuck and break. But I do prefer them as being easier to use.

Where are you? I have at least a dozen.

The thing that makes the caps short lived, especially in your case was improper glue however it is not uncommon to have the whole hub cap fall off due to improper instillation. Having had an '87 since '87 and gone through the same issue it would appear that dad and I, in our attempt to ensure that we have a spare hubcap on hand, seem to have cornered the market!! :)

I have never seen one of those caps in a junk yard. I believe they were VERY short lived - one, maybe two years. You'd be better off buying a whole new set of caps/covers. Maybe these, from IPD: http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-200/Wheels-&-Lugnuts/Hubcaps-Wheel-Covers/p-69-467-1632/

Alternatively, try Turbobricks.com in the wanted section. There are a lot of parts mongers over there, and the commerce section gets more traffic. eBay works too. Good luck!

You gotta be quick. My local junk yard had four of them right after I sold them.

1. Junk yard
2. eBay
3. Hub cap dealer

What I did was to replace the 14" steelies with 15" alloys. No more hub caps.
