Anyone know about the mechanics of holding leather seat buttons down 200 1990

I'm about to replace my back seat in my rebuilding project (changing beige interior to black leather from my old '86)...

so I thought I'd try to pull the buttons down so they would stop biting my kids when they sat back there.

Art pointed me to some of his pics of this procedure a long time ago but I can't find them anywhere.

there seems to be metal rods that the buttons attach to but the metal rods aren't held down to the bottom of the seat any longer.

Is there something down there below the foam that these metal rods attach to? I think the approach is to use a plastic tie wrap tied to the rod then down to the base of the seat??

anyone with experience in this?

Don't know how Volvo did it, but in the American cars that used the buttons used a piece of nylon string (kind of like fishing line) that went through the button loop, and around either the listing wire, or the seat frame. The depth of the buttons was set by the tension on the string. Maybe this will help.

Been a while, hasn't it?

I'm looking at the picture trying to recall what's on the other side of the foam I'm tying the rod to. I recall thinking it wasn't well enough stretched by just the two hog rings at the u-shaped bends, that's why the tie wraps.

It has been awhile Art,

I'm glad you're still here doin' your thing!

that's the pic I remember (you must have a helluva well organized image library)

I've got my hands under the foam and there doesn't seem to be anything pulling that rod down, the only thing holding it down is some fabric belt like things that somehow ties into the top of the foam.

I'm gonna try to screw a cup hook or something into the bottom board and run a couple of tie wraps down through the foam to it, hopefully they will hold.

Jack,

By your description (and by re-reading your original post) I'm thinking you're in the back seat. I've only done the chairs, so I've got no clue if that's where you are. I think...

Seems odd/funny to say that because I distinctly remember an annoying loose button in our wagons back seat, but don't recall disassembling it. Probably it is still loose and annoying.

yes Art you have deduced correctly I'm in the back seat, getting to a level of detail that is probably inappropriate but I've gotten that way when trying to make my rust free wagon "right".

Thanks for the reply, it seems like just a few months ago I was leaning on you for help with Bad Blue, but I guess it's been at least a couple of years now!

I'll post back here to let you know if the cup hook idea works.
