There is a simple test to see if the PCV is pulling vacuum (which it should be). With the engine idling, unscrew the oil filler cap, then lift it slightly. There should be a bit of suction holding it down. If you have an older b230 or b21, the cap with "dance" on the valve cover filler, and the engine might bog slightly. Also, if you have a lot of blowby on an older engine, be prepared for the cap to jump off the valve cover. Newer b230's won't bog, and the cap should get held down by the vacuum.
When you clean the oil separator box, remove the intake manifold if you can (makes life easier), but it can be done with it still on the head. Remove the IAC valve and intake bellows. Soak the box in simple green if you don't buy a new one. Use a little vaseline on the o-ring to hold it in place. Leave the plastic tube in the block alone. Take your time, and purchase the iPd pre-88 relocation kit. Also buy a 5/8" nylon barbed coupler from lowes to use the kit in conjunction with the s-shaped hose on top of the box.
