Sorry to be a pest, but there's another area I've been. The OD relay can develop solder cracks around the large pins holding the relay to the board. The largest of them are the frame of the relay itself, and since that is the armature contact, it is on the "other side" of the clicking event, meaning, yes, the relay can click and still be broken.

I've saved an overdrive relay just by resoldering those cracked joints as many others have.

But there's another hazard. If the white wire underneath the tranny loses its insulation (I should replace "if" with "when") and makes contact with the transmission housing, it should blow fuse #11. But, if someone got tired of it popping, and threw the red fuse out for a blue, the circuit inside the relay (again, after the click) will pop instead. You then go buy a new relay and the bare wire under the car pops the new one too.
