Replacing Front End Bushings -- Difficult job? 900 1996

The big wear items bushing-wise in the front end are the strut rod (also called radius or cone) bushings. When these are worn you get a clunk going over speed bumps and the edges of driveways. They are not particularly hard to replace, although I have had to chisel the remnants of the old bushings out of the control arms and clean the control arms out with a metal brush in a power drill. I prefer the polyurethane aftermarket bushings-- the original rubber bushings don't last as long-- the aftermarket rubber ones are complete junk.

I noticed no increase in vibration or harshness with the poly bushings, but they did tighten up the ride and the car seems to handle better at speed.

Good luck!
