ACK! Need advice on jammed trip meter! 700 1987

Hi folks,

I filled up at the gas station and reset my trip meter (while the car was in park), and it has not budged from 0000 for about 15 miles now. My odometer still works - turning over a mile every so often, consistently enough to make me think it is working properly - so I count myself among the lucky.

The rightmost digit - 1/10th mile - appears to be compressed from the right, and I see the barest edge of a gear on its right side.

Please advise me on how I should proceed. I am loath to simply work the reset plunger repeatedly, or jiggle it.

Thanks!

Ari

    Ari:
I encountered this problem wth my '88 70 trip meter several years ago, and felt the same anguish, albeit briefly. On a hunch, I pressed the reset button as per normal, but let it SNAP out rather than releasing it more softly. That seemed to do the trick - for my machine at any rate. I've seen the problem once or twice since then if I've not used this method - perhaps this might work for you too.
    Good luck.
    Garth.

Mine did the same thing on a long trip, it fixed itself overnight and 950 km I made the mistake of pushing it down while the car was moving, this was 30 seconds after walking into the fuel filler door and snapping off the hinge
