ACK! Need advice on jammed trip meter! 700 1987

Ari:
I encountered this problem wth my '88 70 trip meter several years ago, and felt the same anguish, albeit briefly. On a hunch, I pressed the reset button as per normal, but let it SNAP out rather than releasing it more softly. That seemed to do the trick - for my machine at any rate. I've seen the problem once or twice since then if I've not used this method - perhaps this might work for you too.
Good luck.
Garth.
