Quality of aftermarket front wheel hubs? 700 1989

Hi. I need a driver's side hub 271644. Passenger side is still good.
All the bearings on the car are still original ones.

Read about the 1 and 2 piece hubs in the FAQ.
Can I assume this is a 1 piece sealed unit then?

Has anyone used the Scan-tech or FAG brand hubs before?
Can you comment on how long it has lasted or any issues?

Found a review that said Scan-Tech ball joints were good quality.
Have used their turn signal lamp and brake cables without any problems.
Others beg to differ on some of their other parts though.

I know SKF is the best/OEM quality but can be expensive and hard to find.
Thanks.

About 10 years ago,I got the FCP Groton hubs for my wife's 89 740. Did both sides (if one is gone, the other is going) and have driven great since. I drove twice from home (Brownsville,Texas on the Mexican border) to Bar Harbor, Maine during the summers, no problema so far.
Even so, if you can get the SKF (OEM) then do it.
buena suerte,

I believe that SKF is OEM for the bearings and hubs.

I know my 90 has two-piece hubs and your 89 may have one-piecers....

Anyway, they've been great so far, no complaints.
I would replace in pairs though.

I paid $122 apiece (not that big a difference from 99 if you're spending 200 anyway) and used a 20% off coupon from Kragen on them.

Good Luck with them. And if you aren't replacing the other side, I would at least re-lube them.

Have you checked with Tasca Volvo (www.tascavolvoparts.com) yet? I got a genuine Volvo hub from them when my car needed it, price was very reasonable. In fact, the price was low enough that it made more sense to buy the genuine part for the quality and reliability.

As of today, about 10:30ish a.m. Tasca gets $102.60 for the genuine part, and FCP gets $99 for the ScanTech. Tasca may get a bit more for the shipping, but the overall difference in total price will be very little.

I can't say much good about ScanTech parts, from my experience. Would prefer SKF-made, genuine Volvo bearing.

By the way, did you know that SKF was originally the parent company of Volvo? It's true. SKF set up a division or subsidiary to market a special type of bearing under the latin for "I roll," but never used the division. Several years later two executives talked the SKF board into making cars and they used the as-yet unused "Volvo" (means "I roll") division. Success followed and a few years later, by 1935, I think, SKF wound up taking the Volvo division public as its own company on the Swedish stock exchange.

Kind of gives another good reason to stick with SKF, in addition to SKF's outstanding quality.

Hi. I did find a place online that has the SKFs for $88 so I will probably get them. If the originals have lasted this long perhaps the new ones will also.

Another brand I found online is Dynotek.

I have used the lower control arm/ball joints for the 95 850T sedan made by Hamburg Technic and the quality is quite good.
Thanks.

Quality of aftermarket front wheel hubs? - update 700 1989

Unfortunately, Tasca Volvo is showing $190 now.

That other place's supplier was getting out of SKF hence the $88 price, but the Scan-Tech is only $57.50. Checked some of the other major Volvo parts places online but they don't sell the SKF for ABS.

So I will continue looking.
Thanks.
