I too would be doubtful. And it's essential to check this with a fuel pressure gauge before going to the great cost of replacing this part. If your mechanic does not know how to do that test, go to some one who can.
My turbo starts and dies half the time (sometimes it's fine). I suspect the idle solenoid (aka the CIS, constant idle system). Your mechanic should also know about that too.
