1988 745gle front strut job 700 1988

Caster and camber on 7 and 9 series is not adjustable in the standard manner. the 240 had a rotating upper plate and a little dot on the tower that lined up with a marker plate that sits under the two front bolts. marking these was a good idea, but in the 7/9 it's not necessary. Alignment after the job only will tell you if the parts you used were manufactured differently.
It is possible to make some changes. I think it's in the FAQ but here's a quicky. there are two holes to mount the upper plate. When it's disassembled you make a sideways arcing slot in the front hole so that the captured bolt could be nudged sideways to change camber. Caster can be changed by rotating the upper plate 180 degrees; the centerline of the strut is offset in relation to the centerline of the plate, so that can make a difference, but this is a lot of change and is probably useful only if the car is damaged. Also, you can do a bit with different diagonal arms underneath to change caster, there apparently are or were different lengths available. Mostly though, 7/9's only have toe adjustability.
