This sounds like a classic failure of a pink label LH 2.4 ECU. Not the most common failure that prevents the car from starting, but the second most common that lets you get out of your driveway so the car can die in the most inconvenient and dangerous location possible.

If your ECU has a pink label, congratulations, it has failed.
