Hearing some squeaks/creaks/clunks in the front end. Could be anything, but sway bar link bushings were my first target, since I have the upper bushings, and the old ones look quite cracked. I thought the shaft might be hitting the sway bar, so I went to twist off the nut. It broke right off, and now with the upper bushing removed, I see only about 1/2" of shaft protruding above the sway bar; no thread left.
First question: How bad/dangerous is it to drive with no upper nut in place? I suspect it would affect my cornering, but is it just a minor problem, or a serious/safety issue. Will the sway bar pop off the top of the link on a turn, and get into a more problematic condition?
I was thinking that while I source a replacement link, I might be able to put some kind of bolt clamp on the protruding bit (with no upper bushing in place), to at least hold the sway bar on the link. Anyone have a suggestion of where I would find such a clamp? Kind of like a heavy duty "thumb screw" (I'm sounding a bit morbid here!).
Thanks,
