I think I know what you are trying to do. I changed the subject line, because 242 and S/W are seemingly contradictory and perhaps puzzling to some.
To swap the "dial" to the opposite side, the knob needs to be removed. Pop the center cover out using a tool from behind, then depending on whether you have a push on, or a twist lock metal keeper for the knob, either work its barbs loose or rotate it to remove the knob. Both types are shown below. A similar keeper holds the square rod on the opposite side.
The plastic surrounding the knob is just unclipped from the thin sheet metal frame at the bottom and drawn upward over the hooks for it at the top. Of course they are matched left and right, so if you don't want the hack job appearance, you need to swipe them from a driver's chair.
