Tri Carb B30 140-160

Finally got this finished and it runs well using KN needles and red springs. A small clearance issue between clutch master cyl. and air filter. Need to fabricate an offset filter plate. Good power increase about the same as the last efi I drove and no flat spots. I need to get it on a dyno.

That is a BEAUT!! Where did you get the manifold?
Or more importantly, where can I get a manifold like that?

This was a manifold from a Chryser 265 hemi six that I shortened and welded up to flanges cut from a 164 EFI manifold. The distance between intake ports is within 2-3mm of the Volvo head so you only need to shorten the balance tube between carbs. There is one of these manifolds with a set of HIF's on AUS ebay now http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150384412463&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
This would be easier on a LHD car as there would be no clearance issues with the steering box or clutch master. The battery, however needs to move to the trunk. I used a stock EFI exhaust manifold and system.

I've thought about doing something like that with 2 aluminum B18/20 manifolds and an FI manifold.
        Think it would work?

    I LIKE IT! WELL DONE!!!
Very good looking installation. I'm sure it will pull like Demonic-tronic. Maybe better!

Probably yes, that manifold has longer runners than a typical SU manifold.

        Great !

Carbs are HS6 ? Nice to know that KN needles are good !

Similar project planned on my 164 with original Volvo Penta 3 carbs manifold.

B20 modified manifold will not work because of arrangment of intake and exhaust ports on cylinder heads : on 4 cylinders it is E/I/I/E/E/I/I/E and on B30 it is E/I/E/I/E/I/E/I/E/I/E/I.

Yes, HS6 carbs. Does that Penta manifold fit with the EFI exhaust manifold or do you need to use headers ?

            EFI exhaust manifolds fit perfectly.

Battery (even the most compact one) can not be keeped under bonnet ?

A battery fits with the Penta manifold because it's shorter. See pic.

                Good news !

Have you made the controle linkage by yourself ?

The linkage came with the Chrysler manifold all I did was weld the rod to the Volvo linkage. I hope that your car is LHD as I doubt whether the Penta manifold would work on a RHD car. The steering box would be in the way.

The Penta one does fit on RHD.

                      Hi

How readily available are Penta manifolds?

                      Dylan

                        Not available in any store...
You may find it in old garages, old stocks...

I have searched for months before finding one !

6 cylinder Penta have been fitted with 3 Stromberg (quasi-vertical flange) for only 2 or 3 model years. Carbs have then been replaced by basic Solex with horizontal flange. This Solex manifold is more easy to find. It might be possible to modifiy the flanges (cut and weld ?).
