Hi All,
My clutch arm broke, and someplace in the process of having it towed twice, something else has gone wrong, and the car will no longer start without a direct wire from the battery to the coil. I drove it home from the shop (about 2 miles) with it wired directly. I spent most of today combing through wires trying to find a flaw that would cause it to turn over but not fire. No luck. If I get desperate enough to rig a wire with a toggle switch on it so the car is always hot wired, what are my chances of frying the computer in the car? Has anyone done this? Is it generally a Bad Idea? Got any good ideas? There is no voltage coming off the coil at all until it's hot wired to the battery. I checked all the wires that run off the coil, followed them around to the computer etc, everything checks out so far. I checked the fuses visually, but haven't put a voltmeter on them yet. This still may be just a bad fuse. In the meantime, I am disabled, live alone, and this is my only transportation. The clutch work took all my money for repairs, so sending it back to the shop is not an option. I generally do all my non-major work myself. The car has been extensively, but not completely, rewired since I got it, it had the bad wiring harness issue common to 81's. Any help is GREATLY appreciated :)
