It's not impossible that AutoZone would have the seal. It's worth a phone call. NAPA might be a little more likely. If you live in a town big enough to have a bearing supplier, they might have it based on the number stamped on the seal. Otherwise, you can get it online from E-europarts or FCP Groton, and others. It's probably less than $5.

When you put the new seal in, I believe the outer edge of the seal will go in just flush to the housing. Clean the area with a wire brush and rag before you remove the yoke to keep dirt out of the rear end.

Are you talking about adding trans fluid or rear end oil? The rear end would likely still turn with no oil, but if the trans is low enough, the wheels will not be driven.

The rear end might still be okay even though it was run low. You will just have to try it and see. I had a friend stop by once with a 3-speed Chevy making transmission noise. When I pulled the drain plug, dust came out. We filled it and drove off just fine. I don't know how long it lasted, but it was at least a year.
