If your car has a service light to remind you to change the oil and requires resetting to get it to go out then you should have the wires that need to be desoldered from the board at the points circled below:

Noting the maximum speed will give you a reference as to where the needle needs to be positioned before pressing it into place so as to get correct speed readings. The photo shows where the needle stops if you gently advance it to what would be the maximum speed or the end of its travel.

In my opinion that makes the needle difficult to install as you must get it turned to that position before replacing the needle. I like to carefully lift the needle up over the zero peg and let it find its unrestricted home position. I make note of that and then when reinstalling it I simply replace the needle in that position and then carefully lift the needle up over the peg before pressing it home.
I avoid desoldering the ribbon cable in this last pictue by simply removing the two phillips head screws that hold the motor in position. The motor stays with the board.

Be very careful of the pegs on any of the gauges. They are very fragile and easily broken off.
