Parking brakes shoes? 200 1988

Yes, this grinding in reverse has been a clue in two of my cars where the p-brakes fell apart. If left that way, the next clue will be sudden, loud, and will leave you with the impression the rear axle just broke, if heard and felt for the first time, as the pieces of brake shoe jam up and disintegrate.

To reach these brakes, the caliper needs to be dismounted. Support it so the brake line does not kink, and then remove the brake rotor. The p-brake adjustment may need to be fully backed off (under rear ash tray).
