1989 245 GL auto OD was working when it felt like it, now gone...help please 200

If I read your message correctly, you have NO overdrive at all after the plate installation? You did not fiddle with the cable until after you'd test-driven and found that there was still no OD. Is this right?

Then I'd quit playing with the cable and go back to the lockout bypass. Are you absolutely sure that you installed the bypass plate correctly? When you removed the solenoid, two rubber gaskets needed to come out, and only the outer one is replaced (it comes with the plate). The little one takes a certain amount of coaxing to come out, but it must in order for the bypass plate to do its job.
