Problem with one of my new lower ball joints...? 120-130

I'm just coming to the end of a project to replace all my front end bushings and my lower ball joints. I have everything back together now, but one of my ball joints is giving me trouble. I can't get the break/hub assembly to "seat" down onto the tapered bolt of the ball/socket. When I try to tighten on the nylock nut provided, it just turns the ball/bolt in it's socket and will not tighten down any further for me. As it is, the end of the bolt is just barely flush with the nut, whereas on the other side the bolt end is sticking beyond the nut almost half an inch it looks like.

What can I do? Any ideas on how I can stop the bolt from turning so that just the nut will turn and go further down the bolt?

Hope this makes sense, thanks.

    Got it fixed... 120-130

So.. as a conclusion on this problem thread I started... I ended up driving very lightly for a block or two and once over a little speed bump, then back home.

That seated the brake/hub assembly stuff onto it's tapered position on the up-pointing lower-control are bolt. So I was able to tighten the down much further onto the bolt, matching in depth to the other side which hadn't had the same problem on installation. BTW... is the hub/brakes assembly components called a "trunion arm"...? I'm wondering what the proper name for the stuff mounted between the conrol arms is called?

It will help if the ball joint's pin and the tapered hole it fits into are good and CLEAN.

If putting weight on it doesn't work, try 1. Squeeze the spindle & lower control arm together with a large channel lock pliers or 2. put an open end wrench of suitable thickness between the nut & the spindle & tighten it until seated. Then loosen the nut & remove the wrench & retighten the nut. [Use the open end of the wrench if a combination]Be sure to tighten the nut with sufficent torque to seat the taper of the ball joint into the spindle. If the nut still turns the ball joint end keep repeating the process until it works. Good luck.

Sometimes there is an allen head in the end of the bolt, but I can't remember if the 120s have this.
Usual way would be to use a jack under the ball joint (don't crush the housing) and use the weight of the car to hold it in place (stop spinning).

Yep. Try putting the jack under the ball joint and jacking it up a bit. The should create enough pressure between the two so that the stud won't just spin in place.
