Rough running 740, catalytic converter getting red hot 700 1990

I think a slipped or mis-timed (retarded) belt can cause the hot cat. Worth checking basic timing anyhow on an unknown car.

Also, since you didn't say this was a turbo, I assume it's got Regina (Siemens-Bendix) FI which takes a special O2 sensor. If yours has red, white, and black wires it's the correct one. If not it will run rich.
