Intermitent wont crank 700 1987

Try shorting the heavy starter lug to the light solenoid lug
with a long screwdriver. See if it spins OK then.
This was a long unresolved issue with my 740, and after starting
with the screwdriver, it could behave for days weeks or months,
and then need another screwdiver treatment.
