AC shuts off when it's hot S90-V90 1998

The car is an 1998 V90. AC system works normally most of the time (fine on short trips).
After running for a long time in hot weather (100F here in SF valley) the compressor would
shut off and refuse to work before the car cools down. I topped up the refrigerant recently
(it was reading somewhat low) -- this had no effect on the problem.
Is there a high tem shutoff switch I should check?
Thanks,
Vlad

If the compressor isn't running at all, then jumper the high temp sensor on the compressor. If the compressor is running but cooling poorly (vent temps of 50+ degrees), then check for a low freon charge.

I had a similar problem where the A/C on our 98 S90 would blow ice chucks out of the dash vents all day long as long as the A/C wasn't shut off, once shut off it wouldn't cool again the rest of the day until the next day. It turned out to be a low R134a charge. Now it is fine no matter how many times I shut it off in a day.

On our 95 960, the compressor would shut off when it got hot and not come back on until it cooled off. Jumpering the compressor temp sensor solved that problem.

Thanks! I'm thinking it's a high temp sensor of the compressor. How do I find it?
I looked in my manual (green book), and the figure with the sensor looks different from what I see on my car. On mine there are two connectors with wires on both sides and a small "black box" which looks like it could be a temp sensor. I tried to include a picture in this post -- I hope it will work out. Or am I looking at the wrong side?
      Thanks,
      Vlad

That's exactly what mine looked like before I jumpered it. I made a short jumper with a T-Tap at each end. I connected one end of the jumper to the wire coming out of the FRONT of the black & amber plastic block and connected the other end to the FRONT side of the long slender, amber colored plastic connector. Here is what it looks like today (this is the best pic I could get). When I installed it I removed the top of the air filter housing for easier access.

Thank you very much for your post. I looked in the local RadioShack for something
similar to your t-tap contacts but couldn't find any (it looks like with them
you don't have to cut the wire so the jumper can be removed with little effort
if needed). Any hints on where to find them?
          Thanks,
          Vlad

Sources for T-Taps are Checker Auto, Autozone, Kraegen, etc.... or here :http://www.amazon.com/Posi-tap-Connectors-12-18-Gauge-Wire/dp/B00389RUEO (that less than I paid for mine).
