AC shuts off when it's hot S90-V90 1998

The car is an 1998 V90. AC system works normally most of the time (fine on short trips).
After running for a long time in hot weather (100F here in SF valley) the compressor would
shut off and refuse to work before the car cools down. I topped up the refrigerant recently
(it was reading somewhat low) -- this had no effect on the problem.
Is there a high tem shutoff switch I should check?
Thanks,
Vlad
