Since the car had 500 miles on it and the Dealer Mangled the Drain plug, it has bothered me. I didn't know it was ruined until my 100000 mile fluid change.
21 years later I'm thinking about doing whatever it takes to get it out. Can someone verify that the plug is standard Plumbing theads? I happen to have a Fill plug out of another Rear axle (Chevrolet) and it looks close. I know it is interchangable with a ford rear axle. Can I assume it is good for teh Volvo Dana? I hate pulling the Cover to Drain the rear.

Can you clean out the sludge better with the cover removed?

Never had sludge in a rear before.
Some Covers have magnets on them and they catch metal but I have never had metal Pieces. Metalic mud sticks to it. Without teh magnet the mud probably would have stayed floating in the oil and come out just fine through the drain plug.

I had one in our 740 that I had to drill out. I had no problem getting a replacement from Advance Auto. It looked a bit different but screwed right in.

Any decent auto parts store should have a selection of generic plugs.
