Because an '82 GL I had which ran beautifully developed serious running problems immediately after the Seafoam treatment. There is no question in my mind that the cause was the magical Seafoam knocking 25 years of crud loose and clogging something up.

Also, I had previously tried it on my '93 and it made exactly NO DIFFERENCE. It's snake oil, a placebo, and the best thing it can do is nothing.
