Spray paint for headlight reflectors? 200 1991

Is there any spray paint available to repaint/recoat the reflector of the headlights on the 86 thru 93 lights? I will be replacing the lenes only with new to get the clear effect and rid the yellow ones.

Thanks.

I did my covers in May and I used aluminum duct tape. They are right about touch silver paint and I don't know if it would take the heat.
Metal duct tape is about the same price as a can of paint , just try to find the kind without words on it.

I've tried to use "chrome" paint on a number of occasions, and found the results to be less than desired. I have, however, realized that there are outfits out there who are able to put a chrome-like finish onto plastics that are very high quality and are also tough. Look in the yellow pages, or wherever, for plastic chroming technology. there are two in western Canada that I am aware of, but presently I can't find the name, number or website for either. I'll keep looking. Onje's in Calgary, Alberta, the other in Salmon Arm BC.

Should be http://www.eastwood.com, but yes, very good idea.

I perused the Eastwood website and they have a "Liquid Chrome" paint that looks very promising. Costs several times what a rattle can would, and you'll need an airbrush or sprayer, but I bet it would work very well.

Right now, as I type this, on E-bay there is a chrome spray paint for 12.95. there are several to choose from. you get what you pay for. I learned the hard way by trying to wax the relector and ruined it. I did laugh after crying so at least I still have a sense of humor. I think we have to to live in today's world. Life has to be kind of tongue-in-cheek. Good luck

Don't even think about cleaning the reflective surface you have because as soon as you touch it... it is gone.

There are good-ish chrome paints out there.

I noticed today on my turn signal reflectors that much of the silvering has worn off, leaving black plastic showing. Nobody can tell me that black plastic is a better reflector than chrome paint, so I'm going to try the paint route.

I have found Krylon Premium Metallics to be the best silver/gold paint, of those I've tried. However, there are some quite expensive chrome paints out there which claim to be much better.

If your reflectors are that bad, it can't hurt. But I would consider paint to be a last resort to replacement.

White paint? 200 1991

For what it's worth, when Jorrell, myself, and a couple others were trying to improve the lighting in the gauge cluster, I learned that white paint - counter-intuitively - is regarded as a better reflector than an imperfect mirror (eg. silver paint).

I suspect your best bet with re-silvering the reflectors cheaply is thin glue and aluminum foil. Carefully done, you could get some good results. The process is basically gilding with aluminum. In fact, look for gilding glue at your local craft store.

and there is always the cheap and dirty way, silver metal foil duct tape, also the best for holding parts together while gluing, taping keys under cars, writing on with a nail and sticking to the engine bay for archiving when belts and oil were changed, weatherproofs leaking sunroofs and vents on parts car.... for starters

Nope: these are mirrored via vapor deposition on the plastic. The only fix is new lens reflectors.

Wow, that is absolutely amazing! Gotta see if he has a distributor in the US where we can buy the stuff. Looks like new chrome. I'd be willing to try this on some reflectors.
