Automatic Transmission Neutral Start Switch 140-160

Hello Everyone,

Well, I got the BW35 out and the M40 in my 1973 142E last weekend, along with all the necessary ancillary parts. I'd love to take this thing on a test drive now, but I can't get the starter to engage. I've been trying to figure this one out on my own, without posting to brickboard, but I just can't seem to get it to work.

Do I need to rewire or remove a circuit to disable the automatic transmission neutral start switch? Is it possible that the automatic neutral start switch is even a factor in this situation? If so, please explain what I need to do to disable this switch's effect on the ignition system.

Thank you in advance,
Colin

Hello,

The neutral safety switch for the BW35 needs to be by passed.

You can connect the wires to each to by pass the switch under the car.

Or simply run a wire directly from the starter pole on the ignition switch down to the correct pole on the starter solenoid.

The pole is labeled "50" and the wire is usually green.

The neutral start switch is sticking out of the side of the BW35 over there in the corner. It won't be doing any harm over there. I'd guess that you just need to find a home for the 2 wires that came off it. Yellow to earth and black to the reverse light switch on the back of the M40?
