A/C has finally quit. Am I missing something on my checklist? 200 1993

The a/c clutch is only running part of the time.
1. A/C freon pressure is adequate

2. Jumped the pressostat and the clutch and it won't kick on till,

3. I took a dowel rod and pushed the front of the clutch and it kicks in and runs, but the air coming out of the vents is not very cool at all. And when I go for a test drive, the compressor quits again.

Again, the low side pressure is okay. This is the original a/c compressor and it has 248K on it.

Does this sound like a clutch/compressor has finally died or am I missing something else to check??

You might be able to use the bread bag shim method used for 850s and S70s?

As far as the clutch not engaging goes, it sounds like the gap is too large. On my '98 V70 (305k) I pulled the clutch off and removed a shim to get to the recommended gap of 0.012 inches.

As far as the cooling, make sure the condenser (in front of the radiator) is unobstructed. If your system has a sight glass (my '90 240 does) see if it is running clear with no bubbles. You didn't mention the system pressures. The low side needs to be up around 45 psi to allow the compressor to start. You shouldn't need to jumper anything to get things going.

Low side pressure is at 45-48.

I do not believe I am familiar with a sight gas feature on my 93'.

I am taking it to my mechanic on Monday for a checkup. I will mention the shim removal to him.

Check the ground wire on the clutch to the engine. They break loose.
