bad ground for console lights? 200

Hi my 1991 245 gets lots of rough road (dirt, gravel pot holes) driving. Some time back I noticed that the lights just above the heater and fan controls on the console were out. A judicious "love slap" on the right side of the console returned things to normal. I drove the car at 5AM today and noticed complete darkness. No amount of jiggling or tapping brought them back.

All other electrics are fine. Any idea of where I should look for what I assume is a bad ground? Of course if you think it is something else please say!

thanks,

Rod

there's a major ground on the upper right corner of the center console frame.

Did you check your fuses for your left and right side running lights?

Could be the bulb? I believe there's just one little bulb in there that lights that whole area through a plastic filament? It's right in the middle and easy to check by swapping with a known good bulb, or just buy a replacement for a buck or two. My old 242 had the bulb go out and I too thought it was something more serious. It was just the bulb.
