radiator curtain 120-130

My 62 amazon has a small bracket hanging from the dash that has a "key hole" in it. There is also a flared tube that sticks out of the firewall and another tube that curves over and is soldered to the radiator. What are these for? Well according to harald rosseland, a long time ago emigre from Norway, what's missing is the cable that used to run from the key hole, thru the tubes to a curtain in front of the radiator that could be raised and lowered incrementally by pulling on the cable (maybe a bead chain?) and locking it in the small part of the keyhole. I am not sure if the cable was armored in some way between the end of the tube in the firewall and the one on the radiator. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this set up or better yet has a photo and/or has the parts and doesn't want them. Also, was this an option?

"Standard" until '64. Most have gone due to the blinds rotting away. These early cars had the oil filler in the centre of the rocker cover so as not to foul the chain.

Check the picture galleries here for details. http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/

It is not a cable, it is an S-link chain that drapes across over the engine.
The blind is attached at the bottom and the roller is held in a [-shaped bracket
with the chain attached at the middle. It doesn't have a stop device like a windowblind,
but is just spring loaded so when you let the chain looser gravity and the spring
drop it to the bottom front of the radiator and wind it up.
The blind material is an impregnated canvas.
A store-bought windowblind won't work because they now all have cardboard tubes, rather than wood.

All the early cars had them. There should be a spring loaded roller blind in front of the radiator. It was operated by a chain, not a cable.

Too bad. I had a friend that parted out a '64 a few months ago with a complete one in working order (besides the canvas needing replaced - the canvas was in good enough shape to have used it for a pattern) that he put on eBay - no buyer for it.

Nobody bought it, and it was thrown out.

Hairy-

I've got a few of them around. I can see what sort of shape they are in. 99% of those are pretty rough this day in age. I think that most of them would be good for parts or to pattern off of.

Drop me a note off-list and I can send photos directly.

Chris

agent_strangelove, do you still have pics of the curtains? I would love yo see one. My 122 was sold to a guy in california, so there is no mounting brackets or anything for that curtain. I live in an eastern mountain state and drive her dialy summer and winter would like to see if i could fabricate one....
if i do i can upload plans...

If you go here (under documents on the lefthand side, click on parts and accessories):

http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/

Either the B18 or B16 will have exploded views of curtain in the cooling section.

Look at their other stuff. They have no idea what it's worth (or realize how cheap we are).

$600 for a 544 dash cover they say sat around for 50 years.

I understand. Just saying.....
When nobody buys at their outrageous price, maybe this poster will get to see what's out there and maybe choose to make a reasonable offer, if that's what he's looking for.
