Hi Bob,
Don't know if you're aware of this or not but under the locating peg on the back of the gauge there is a pot' you can adjust to set the temp. Using that you can probably eliminate that resistor.

After everything's wired and in place just pop the peg out and insert a small jeweler's screwdriver (flat blade) and gently adjust 'till it's spot on.
