Clutch slave cylinder woes 700

So far in the last 2 years I have had the clutch slave cylinder replaced 5 times! They usually send me a part by FTE, is there anything that can make this part quit in only 2 weeks? I am at my wits end, dont know enough about transmissions to hazard a guesse as to why it fails. I depress the pedal and it goes all the way to the floor, I dont notice and leaks either!

I am sure you have considered the following, but thought I would comment.
Are you sure the slave is actually failing? If the installation of the new slave seems to fix the problem for just a short period, only to have the pedal hit the floor a short time later, it may be that you are addressing the wrong end of the problem. As another poster has mentioend, it could be the master is malfunctioning, but my two cents worth is that you have a slow leak in the line that over time allows air into the system. When you replace the slave, and bleed the system, you are purging the air. Then it slowly leaks back through either a bad master or a faulty line.
Can you rebleed the system with your 'blown' slave, once the pedal starts sinking to the floor? If so, then the problem is not the slave.

Thanks for the info JayDee! I will call the mechanic and see wht he says. How expensive is it to replace the lines (if you know).

The hydraulic line is cheap to replace. It simply unfastens from the slave on one end and the master on the other, then is rebled with a newly installed line. I can't remember if my 740 5spd had a rigid line, or a flex line like my 1800. Either way it should be cheap.
Let me ask you though; is it the same mechanic that has been replacing all those slave cylinders over the years? I kind of wonder why he has not been able to recognise that a problem exists, with all these repetitive failures, never mind that he has not come up with a solution. Maybe it would be best to switch mechanics.

Seems pretty odd that the slave cylinder would stop working and not leak. It's nothing more than a piston with a seal. If it doesn't move or leak and the peddle goes to the floor then maybe it's the master cylinder? Mine gets sort of erratic when it gets really hot. Sometimes works normally and sometimes grabs really quick just a short distance off the floor. Not loosing any fluid either??? Maybe the flex tube section is stretching when it get hot??

Is that for a manual transmission clutch?
A slave hydraulic cylinder?

Did you get some rebuilt unit out of Brooklyn, NY?

That's what I did with a master cylinder.

Here's a hint... They suck!, and don't know what they're doing.

Get OEM hydraulic cylinders.

Bill

It is a manual hydrualic, Ive gotten parts from FTE and Beck/Arnley both of which claim to be OEM.
