electronic meep 200 1993

There ia an electronic meep noise coming from the dashboard of my car. It seems to occur randomly and is sometimes a single, half second meep and sometimes a sequence of them. I thought it was coming from the radio receiver in the upper slot but the noise can occur when the radio is off. (Even when off there is still power to the radio so it could still be the source if some section of the power supply is energized in this state.) Another possibility for the source is one of the relays below the vents. Can a relay make a noise like this ?

Thanks Art. I previously jettisoned the chime so that isn't it. It seems to be coming from the center dash but it could be channeled by a duct from elsewhere. And it has only happened when in motion so I can't get my ear on it to tell the source for sure.

Geof, this happened to me not long ago because one (or more) of the fuses had some corrosion. The sound itself was coming from the chime that is supposed to alert you to leaving the keys, or the lights on, although it wasn't exactly the same clear note. Cleaning fuses is worth a try. Just rolling them might momentarily duplicate it, like it did for me. If no joy, try unplugging the blue chime to eliminate it as the suspect serenader.

Thought for the day: Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
