Geof, this happened to me not long ago because one (or more) of the fuses had some corrosion. The sound itself was coming from the chime that is supposed to alert you to leaving the keys, or the lights on, although it wasn't exactly the same clear note. Cleaning fuses is worth a try. Just rolling them might momentarily duplicate it, like it did for me. If no joy, try unplugging the blue chime to eliminate it as the suspect serenader.
