Hey there,
Chantielle from IPD here. Our family has a 71 145 that we have loved for many years, and I love the look of a dressed up engine. I am undertaking the task of gathering information on the interest in silicone hoses for the 140's. Before placing an order to make these available to you through IPD, I am needing to hear from you...
Would you be interested?
Would you like them to be blue?
What set of hoses would you most like to see available to you?
Thanks everyone...I am hoping this will be the beginning of bringing a lot of wonderful parts for our dearly loved 140 series.

Hi Chantielle,
Thanks again for your help when I called ~two months ago to order a ton of stuff for my 850R with a blown head gasket. I'm about 3/4 done with that - I'm working very slowly and carefully in the very limited spare time I have.
One of the things I made sure to do was pick up a silicone vacuum hose kit from Stylin' Motors. They do not provide silicon appropriate hose clamps with the kit and this was really annoying.
I would be very happy to get a set of silicone hoses for my '75 164E. I would really like to get a kit that has all the hoses mentioned by "volvowayne" - radiator, vacuum, etc. - and vacuum hose with proper clamps. I would prefer to see a very dark red (maybe black and red marbled!) - something that doesn't scream for attention but shows that it's a high-quality custom part. http://www.capriogroup.com/webstuff/Images/Backgrounds/Tile/BG-BlackMarble2-Red.gif
I am anticipating buying your turbo silicone intercooler hoses for the 850 and I kind of wish you made them in black - easier to hide from the wife! Your company's colors should/could be represented, though. I don't think anyone here wants yellow hoses... so, it'd be blue, then, and that wouldn't keep me from buying them.

I don't mean to rain on your colorful hose parade, but as I mentioned before in this thread, hose clamp type and quality are important for silicone hoses -- it's probably more important to sell good hose clamps with the hoses than offering pretty colors! Some clamps will cut into silicone hoses, and if you live in the great frozen North you could find that the ends leak in the cold unless constant pressure clamps are fitted. Racers who use silicone hoses probably don't face this issue unless they race in winter in Minnesota...

I would support this as well as braided stainless brake lines for the 140 series.

Yes! ive always wanted some, as for the stainless brake hoses ive always been rather insulted that you guys have offered them to every other model before and after our beloved 140s, very weird considering the obvious potential of the car, and the many members of your staff who love them, please make it right!!
sorry no more ranting, its just sooo illogical to me..
i guess ill call Eric!!
and thanks for the many parts over the years and of course i love you guys regardless.

In the past, ipd did offer stainless braided lines for the 140. The story behind the cessation of this product is long and predictable and has details along the way that include things like incorrect installation by the customer resulting in line failure resulting in threats of lawsuits from people who wanted to hold someone other than themselves responsible for the failure they, or their installed, caused.
They're not hard to get. Just about any hydraulic shop can make them for you, usually in a matter of minutes. Eric has them on the shelf right now. Not trying to take business away from ipd, but if your priority is to have stainless lines on your 140, there are at least a couple options.

AYE!! I will be installing a B20 in my Amazon and renewing the hoses in my 1800's. The newer, high quality, RED or BLACK hoses would be great!!!
Thanks

Hello,
I am also interested in silicone hoses for any older Volvo.
Can you supply the Volvo part numbers or the exact year model of Volvo you are going to have hoses fabricated?
I stock custom made braided steel hoses for all the 140 Volvos.
My hoses are DOT certified and will fit EXACTLY as originally mounted, INCLUDING THE CORRECT SIZED ENDS FOR THE FORWARD BRACKETS WITH THE LARGE HOLE AND RUBBER SLEEVES FOR MOUNTING AT THE SWAY BAR BRACKET!!

Eric,
I am just gathering info now, working on fitment issues and trying to see what is going to to have the widest demand. I can send you an email from work or in turn you are welcome to contact me at chantielle@ipdusa.com
Thanks for your feedback! I am so glad you have those stainless brakelines. I know they are a sought after item for sure.
Take care, I look forward to chatting with you.

I am loving this response! Just want to send out a great big thankyou for you feedback and enthusiasm! I can work on the stainless lines at another time, I'd like to focus on the hoses right now, but I hear you for sure!
If you haven't already, could you respond to these questions:
Year
Model
How do you feel about this kit:
PCV, Radiator upper, lower and expansion tank when applicable, brake booster (big maybe because this is a material change)
Dark Red
How serious are you for purchase?
I will need a minimum commitment to have them made. Once I have an idea of how many of you are seriously interested then I can get quoted on a price and present it to you! Sounds great?! I think so to :) Cause I know for sure a set is going on our beauty :) That is if it ends up fitting!!!

IMO, over a few years there will probably be better sales of silicone hoses that are close in character to the originals. i.e. black and not too shiney. Once your manufacturer has the moulds made and approved, having them available in colours like blue or red won't be a problem anyway. Bright blue seems to be the favourite amongst racers/ricers etc but as factory preformed hoses get harder to find, being able to get black ones would be good. After doing a good standard restoration and wanting the engine bay close to stock and then having to fit red/yellow/blue hoses doesn't help if you show the car at any level. Certainly my question if being shown under the hood would be "why, after spending all that time and money, didn't you fit black hoses?"
Just my 2 cents.

Take one of your current brake lines to your local hydralics shop and ask them to fab up a set for you.
That was my solution.
It certainly made a difference in the feel of my brake pedal.

Hi Dave,
The stainless lines made for the 240's will not fit the 140's because they have a rather oddball connector and other fitment issues. But hey..nice thinking :) Again if interest and demand start building up and we have enough committed orders to make them, then that is something we can work on. Spread the word!
Thanks for getting back to me on the hoses, looks like red is winning so far!

Sounds like a cool idea.
I do agree with volvowayne the hoses would look better in red or maybe black as opposed to blue.

Chantielle,
What a fantastic idea! Yes, I for one would be interested.
Blue looks sharp however it seems as though everything after market now is blue. How about red? Not candy apple but closer to a classic alizarin crimson red:)
Hoses I would want: Radiator, heater core, PCV, brake booster, fuel, expansion tank, and washer squirter.
Howpefully this helps.
I can't wait to hear more from IPD about product development for our beloved 140's!

Seems like black being available makes sense for stock appearance and red would match the engine block. The list above would cover just about everything.
I'm in for stainless brake lines - sooner than silicon hoses, actually...

I fitted some nice bright blue silicone hoses to my wife's Mazda camper van last year. In cold weather last winter they tended to leak a little at the ends, which could only be solved by using constant pressure hose clamps with them (purchased from an Australian company, Norma). Lots of others who bought the silicone hoses had the same leakage problem, and my understanding is that hose clamp type and quality are critical for silicone hoses. I would recommend selling constant pressure hose clamps with the hoses. They look great.
