MAF Sensor Cleaning 700

Hi all,

I have some CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner and am thinking about cleaning my MAF as a way to improve fuel economy and/or improve performance.

I am not currently exhibiting any symptoms that would lead me to believe the car is having a problem with the MAF sensor.

Is this an action that is recommended for the above purpose?

The car is a 90 740 turbo with 163k.

CRC has worked great for me. The latest was when a shop in Norfolk wanted to replace the MAF on my kid's car. I told them to spray the thing first, and it worked. It has brought my units back from the near dead 4-5 times. However I wouldn't do it as a preventive step, absent a performance problem.

I should interest you to know 700

The Bosch system has a self-cleaning system - a burn-off cycle that is run when certain parameters of engine operation are achieved. It's run after you shut the engine off, and is quite capable of maintaining the AMM without any CRC snake-oil.

I did mine and it achieved nothing: no change in performance. As noted, the wires are ultra-fine so it is easy to screw up and damage them. Probably best to leave them alone, or spray only the throat of the AMM to remove dust.

In general, the attitude for AMM's around here is don't fix what ain't broken.

The wires are kind of delicate and we try to keep from fiddling with them for fear of making it worse.

I did use some on mine, and it didn't seem to do anything good or bad.

    Happy Wrenching
