Help with alternator adjusting bracket (squeal update) 200 1993

Can someone describe with photo or words how the slotted adjustment bracket attaches to the block? What I found, in words:

From block toward fan:
block -> rubber bushing with lip against block -> bolt -> slotted alternator bracket (slid over bushing, nothing positively holding it on)

Is this correct? It seems odd to me that the slotted bracket just slips over the bushing.

I'm still trying to track down the intermittent squeal/screech. I currently have the power steering and A/C belts off to narrow things down (no effect). The alternator spins smoothly by hand and charges fine, so I don't suspect its bearings. I also marked the two halves of the crankshaft pulley/balancer and noted no movement after a squealing episode.

The last two on my list are the water pump and timing chain tensioner. I'm not sure there's a way to condemn one of these other than replace and wait. The PO records show a recent water pump but no notes on part quality. I'd like to try the "listen through a tube" trick, but the noise is too sporadic and never at idle. My neighbors think I'm weird enough without me standing over the engine holding a pipe to my ear all morning.
