Therein lies the problem Steve. A used engine, unless you can hear it running ( and even then ) may have it's own problems. Even checking the mileage on the body it came from is no guarantee. So if your engine exhibits the noise just during warm-up and has no other real symptoms like burning oil or running rough, you will be better off driving it. Keep changing the oil at regular intervals, and be happy with it.
