Using Chevron gas for a while made the most noticeable difference for me - mileage and driveability. I'd hit the engine with some seafoam if you think it's running poorly (I'm converted from thinking it's snakeoil now). It made an incredible difference in my 84 244dl.

Good Luck and try not to obsess about it. If you're really concerned, you can pull the injectors and put them in mason jars to test the spray patterns. No smoking and new o-rings wouldn't hurt when reinstalling.
