Timing belt question - tension and crankshaft pulley bolt 200 1985

Hi Tim,

Adjusting tension is easy. You don't need to lock the crank, and you don't even need to remove the cover. And no, it doesn't provide dynamic tensioning.

Just pop the access plug out on the timing belt cover. The nut is 15 or 17 (can't recall when it lost weight). Loosen the nut a turn, and use a 15/16 or 24mm socket on the crank to wiggle the slack out of the belt, and re-tighten. The spring will put the tensioner in the right spot.

Feeling that wiggle for the slack may not be intuitive the first time, but it sounds like you already have the cover off anyway if you've measured belt deflection.
