Couple of quick M46 question 200

My O/D is slow to engage on warmer days. I have no idea when the fluid was last changed, or indeed, what type they used. So, I'm going to drain it and refill with ATF type F.

My questions:
(1) Can I do this with the front end up on ramps, or must the car be level? I'm reluctant to get under the car on 4 jackstands, because my driveway isn't level.

(2) What are the filler/drain bolt sizes for the earlier transmissions with the larger heads? I'm going to get a six point socket rather than risk rounding the heads off.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

This may help.

Tip: Also, make sure you can get the fill bolt off before you drain.

To answer my own post for future searchers:

- The fill and drain plugs are 7/8", use a six point socket.
- It can be done without putting the car on stands. I put the passenger side up on ramps to drain it, then got close to 2 quarts in. Swapped the ramps over to the other side, then put the rest in.
