Wax before new paint job 140-160

I'd use the carnuba or TR 3.
They make wax, grease, and silicone remover for a reason.
I'd wet sand it with 400 or 600,and simple green to get off the dead oxidized paint, and dirt ect.
WD 40 is the worst thing you can do as it is invasive to the metal surface.
Well next to fish oil/brake fluid that is..
