Rich, yes it is detonated by impact, but it is my understanding the metal cap on the detonator has to be pierced to go off. Just moving the seat around would not cause it to go off. I removed both seats from two cars to exchange seats and removed the motor assembly for the power seats on all four without any problems. Still, you should exercise caution if you intend to go ahead with your project.
