Several years ago, my daughter took her '91 240DL to a speedy oil change shop for an oil change. Not realizing the shop had put in twice the amount of replacement oil or failed to remove the old oil, she paid for the oil change and went on her way back to college. Somewhere along I-40, she gives me a call at work about all this smoke coming from the tailpipe and the low engine performance. I left work and drove out to meet her. Got the car in to a dealership and received their pricey solution. Seemed that all that extra oil got sucked up into the crankcase breather tube and beyond. PCV system and other connected parts had to be cleaned. You might want to inspect and clean yours as well.
Fortunately, the shop took the cost of the cleaning repair after I presented my arguments, the statements from the dealership and a diagram of the crankcase breathing system I copied out of Bentley.
For the fun of Volvos,
Mike
