overdrive light stays on 200 1989

I seem to remember those exact symptoms resulting after a bare spot on the solenoid wire under the car took out a trace on the relay's circuit board. This was a problem that came with our '89 wagon when we bought it used in 2000.

The conclusion I came to was the PO stuck a 25A fuse in #11 instead of the 16A, and as a result next time the shorting white wire blew the relay instead of the fuse.

Take the cover off your relay (left of the glove box) and see if there's a burned trace. I just soldered a jumper around it, and replaced the wire under the car.

EVER WONDER...
Do plumbers who become electricians install outlets upside-down? Hot on the left?
