No match for the Healy 140-160

So, I'm driving down the Taconic Pkwy. in NY. It is a somewhat twisty undulating, scenic mostly two lane parkway built in the 50's. Up ahead of me I see a Jensen-Healy get on and he is moving at a "sporting" rate. I try to catch up in my 140 to get a better look and wave "Hi". I guess he saw me gaining and started to take off. You could hear the wonderful"Blat" from his exhaust. So naturally I took chase.
I was trying, (while still staying prudent), maybe I got up to 75-80 mph. I started to get close, but he could just pull away at will. Whenever I closed the gap, you could hear his exhaust and he just plain pulled away.
Wish I had a better answer, but after about 5 or 10 miles, (untill my exit) he plain old outclassed me.
It was fun though, best part of my day.

You wouldn't have had that problem if you'd been in a manual transmission 164...

I miss my 164 every day I don't visit a gas station.

I had a 1973 Jensen Healey up until about five years ago. I made the mistake of selling at that time. I have missed it ever since.

That 2 liter 907 Lotus engine with the dual overhead cams was a sweet setup. It was a quick revving little beast with very responsive handling. A very fun driver while a little short on looks.

I believe Huffaker was SCCA D champs for several years running in the 70's in a Jensen Healey. Check out:

You were put in your place by a very robust machine; nothing to be ashamed of mind you, just trying to feed too far up the food chain :-)

Yes, I did a little research on it, Looks like they put out HP in the mid 140's or so, probably about what my 140 puts out. I am sure they must also be a few hundred pounds lighter, closer to the ground etc. A bit more sporting, eh. Doubt a 164 would have been able to stay with it either similar Hp but even more weight and roly-poly. I'm running sport springs, poly bushes, sway bars and Bilsteins along with upgraded brakes.
I don't mind it was just nice to chase.
I also realized I spelled it wrong, should be Jensen-Healey. Time has been kind to the looks I think. they look better than a Spit or a Stag, though not as good as the TR's or the Italians, (Alfa and Fiat)
