Hope you're well. The send unit, when in place, is right next to the fuel tank's back wall (i.e., the wall, that is closest to the back end of the car). The send unit's "barrel" points straight down, towards the tank floor.

Thus, to remove the send unit, you need to turn the top in a counter-clock-wise direction, while tilting upwards, the front edge of the send unit's top.

Doing this allows the send unit barrel to clear an in-tank baffle, which limits "sloshing", the side-to-side movement of the fuel, when the vehicle turns, stops abruptly, or accelerates strongly.

hen the barrel is above the barrel, and the end of the barrel points forward (towards the front of the car), the send unit can be lifted from the tank.

When you return the send unit - with new pump - to the tank, you put it in with the end of the barrel pointing forward (towards the front of the car).

Then, slowly turn the send unit clockwise, while lowering the front end, so that it clears the baffle and re-seats behind the baffle. The end of the barrel (at which is found the fuel pump "sock filter") is then pointing towards the tank bottom (or towards the ground).

If you'd not otherwise do so, keep a fire extinguisher handy.
