There is a wire from the low side of the coil to the fuel pump relay. The relay must receive pulses from the coil to turn on the pumps. (These relays often need soldering internally to repair cracks in their internal circuit.) So you should focus on getting spark first.
With the key in the run position, there should be 12V at both coil terminals. If you momentarily ground the low side of the coil it should generate a spark out of the coil to the distributor and also to which ever plug the rotor is pointing to. During cranking the ignition module should supply 0 - 12V pulses to the low side of the coil.
If you want to check the connector on the ignition module, there is a wire clip around the outside of the connector that must be removed before the connector can be unplugged. Be very careful not to break any of the small plastic pieces on the connector.
