Belts with a locked down tensioner like Volvos have should be retensioned after some mileage. The proceedure you described really doesn't accomplish that. After loosening the tensioner nut the crankshaft should be rotated (engine running direction--clockwise as you face the motor) to get the span opposite the tensioner tight--putting all the slack on the tensioner side. Then you tighten tjhe locking nut. -- Dave
